Race Concept - Ascen

this time the idea for this one came from a mixture of Kabuto and Kabutops (yes, the pokemon). I tried combining them but it didn't look QUITE how I wanted, so I looked around and found this crab guy ([link]) and based what I already had around some of the things in the drawing of the crab guy, and voila! Ascen!

the race idea is a desert-dwelling race of crustacean men who exist half in our dimension and half out of it. walking around they'd be transparent, but that didn't seem like a good thing to portray just for this image, so I didn't do it.

anyway, on the artistic side of things, I've obviously used a new technique for this drawing. I attempted a more realistic shading style rather than the normal cell-shading sort of thing that I do. I do like the result on this drawing but I don't know how well it would work on anything else. I'd have to experiment with that. I'll figure out if I want ot do that later.

for now, please tell me what you think of the shading techinique. any feedback is welcome.
